Duct Leakage Testing
Performed by using the Minneapolis Duct blaster (by The Energy Conservatory or TEC) to pressurize the air ducts and calculate the target leakage rate required for Title 24 compliance purposes. Required in ALL CLIMATE ZONES in California. Target of 15% leakage rate in existing duct work (40' or more of new duct work and less that 75% of the ducts have been replaced, and existing ducts are accesible for sealing). A target of 6% leakage is required for new (75% or more of the the ducts are replaced and remaining existing ducts are accesible for sealing) or complete replacement of air ducts.
Duct Leakage Testing (Volume Disc)- For multiple HVAC systems in one job site.
Re-Testing -Duct Leakage Test- If first Duct Leakage test fails, and all necessary corrections have been taken care of by Licensed HVAC contractor, a discounted rate is applied to re-test if a second appointment needs to be scheduled.
Leak Detection with fog
A fog machine is the best method used for locating leaks when initial Duct Leakage Test fails. Professional theatrical fog machine is used along with a non-toxic water and food grade glycol based fog.
*FOR CONTRACTORS- We Highly recommended having an installer present to seal any leaks found in the air duct system.
Refrigerant Charge Verification
Required in climate zones 2 & 8-15 in the State of California for Title 24 compliance and verification purposes along with Duct Leakage Test, System Airflow Measurement, and Fan Watt Draw Test when new space cooling system is installed or existing space cooling system is altered. The State of California REQUIRES for HERS raters to use digital manifold gauges ONLY. They are a lot more accurate.
System Airflow Measurement Test
Required when new space cooling system installed or altered and/or new duct system that provides space cooling is installed, or more than 75% of ducts have been replaced. The test is performed by either plenum pressure matching or measuring the airflow with the TEC Flow Grid.
Fan Efficacy Test
Also known as Fan Watt Draw Test. Follows same requirement guidelines as System Airflow Measurement. A target of 0.58watts/cfm of airflow.
Vent Cap System
At California Air Duct Testers we take pride in the tools we use. Amongst them is the Vent Cap System. When the situation is available, they are used to properly seal air duct registers with out the use of tons of adhesive tapes and grill masks. They help in keeping waste down, and save time.
